Forbidden Love Blog Hop!!

Here’s my take on the theme:

Each echoing footfall of his unwavering departure hammered the rusty nail of despair deeper into her heart. She knew it was over, that was the way it had to be, but her soul still wept for the love she’d lost. A real, aching, shattering, beautiful, perfect love.

The day they had met, the sun glimmered bright and fierce overhead as she crouched down, fingers splayed in the sand, sifting for seashells. When a shadow fell over her searching hands, she squinted up at the source.

“Find something?” the sun blocker had asked.

Intrigued by his husky voice she stood, dusting sand from her hands. Their eyes met and her heart clenched at the silent promise in his liquid amber eyes.

“No, searching for something.”

He nodded. “I was too, but I think I’ve found it.”

A conspiratorial grin lifted the corner of her mouth. “You know, I think perhaps I have, too.”

It had been an otherworldly experience she would’ve once scoffed at, never having been a romantic. He’d taken her hand and led her down the beach while they talked about everything and nothing at all.

It wasn’t until this morning, four months later, that she found out it was all a lie. No fairytale endings. No happily ever after. His single omission ripped the earth from below her feet.

He was married. His wife was in a coma…had been for the past three years. He’d thought he could start a new life with Emma when the doctor said his wife would forever be in a vegetative state and the plug would soon be pulled. But, this morning his wife opened her eyes.

With a single flutter of lashes, a woman Emma had never met got her life back the same moment Emma’s was lost.

I am so excited to team up with lovely Lady Bullish and fantastic Janelleto host a blog hop of forbidden love. Think Romeo and Juliet, but with your own twist and ending. End the story however you like! If happily ever after is where your heart takes you, go for it!!

Nooooo! What? How? Why? The poor, poor woman!!! And the Hubby? Ready to move on and then his wife makes a miraculous recovery? He must have been so confused- wanting to celebrate his wife’s life but then the end of the life with the woman . . such an unexpected twist to the forbidden love of an affair. I feel for all. Very clever. xxx

    • June 11, 2012 at 2:43 AM

Thank you for saying that! I almost took ‘sun blocker’ out…you know, writer self doubt 🙂

Oh how heartbreaking! Beautifully written! Feel so sad for all three of the characters.

    • June 11, 2012 at 2:45 AM

It’s so unlike me to write anything but a fairytale ending, so this was way out in left field for me!! Thank your for stopping by to read it 🙂

Very well done – unusual to feel sympathy for ALL the characters. One of those “life sucks” situations.

Beautiful, just beautiful, Lillie. A perfect tragic couple. The language is smooth and flowing and I love the heartbreaking parallels in the last line. Loved it!

Beautifully arranged from beginning to devastating end…Loved it, and feel so sorry for their heartbreak!

How is it that I haven’t commented on your story yet? I thought I had. I certainly remember reading your story because it cut quite close to the vein. Well done Lillie-passion & heartache in 300 words. 🙂 “with a single flutter of lashes” … very very well done!

Sounds like the perfect premise for a Hollywood movie…One I would really enjoy watching….

    • June 13, 2012 at 7:35 AM

OH, I like that idea, lol. But, it’s funny you say that because I have been making notes on a longer work of fiction based on these sentences…they got me thinking! Thanks for the super cool comment 🙂
